Ode to Workshop

Have a gentle meander down the cobbled streets of Camden Passage Way (Islington) and you will surely stumble across one of North-East London's little treasures, Workshop London. The eclectic window display and warming tones of this charming clothing store oozes the sophistication and grandeur that would not be out of place on the likes of the Kings Road or New Bond Street. Worry not chaps, looks can indeed be deceiving.

Workshop is home to a selective range of innovative independent designers such as Anniel ShoesTata Borello, and is also the "guinea pig" of the Torino based designer Giulia Acchiardi's collection, Harris Wharf London . Harris Wharf traces its roots back to 1928 when the designer's great grandparents founded a gloves factory in Turin. In fact, the whole collection is still designed and made in the Turin family factory.

A regular visitor since the shop's opening in 2010, I have succeeded in overindulging my credit card with the "investment" of the Harris Wharf boiled wool dressing gown coat and more recently the classic black dress (both featured above). The coat was around the £250 mark, but three years later it looks good as new (dry-clean free) and still receives wide-eyed compliments wherever I go. Workshop reigns over Jaeger, Whistles and Hobbs in quality, value, fabrics and cut.

In summary, if you are looking for one of a kind, durable and classic pieces with an edge, this is the shop for you. And if that doesn't convince you, the wonderfully talented Downton Abbey's Michele Dockery is a fan (I have this coat in black thank you very much!)

Still twiddling your thumbs, check out Workshop's:

and say farewell to the High street forevermore.
