I brushed off the tumultuous year that was 2014, prancing about in my disco shoes, gorging on Kensal Rise's finest home cooked cuisine (chez Mr & Mrs Jones) and playing drunken articulate until I lost the ability to string words together. Having found a moment of calm amongst the oodles of cackles bouncing about the room, I took some time to reflect on what has been a year of identity crises, ballsy decisions and furry additions.
Whilst a small part of me would have loved to have made this post a self-pat on the back in narrative for giving the world of corporate law the middle finger - about time (!) and taking my first baby steps into the world of PR and communications, I fully acknowledge that self righteousness is not becoming on anyone. Therefore, my debut offering of 2015 is all about shunning the myths of news years resolutions, which, let's face it are never supposed to be kept, and making a toast to baby steps.
Baby Steps Into 2015
YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT. By this, I don't just mean body but mind too. Although I am an actively healthy eater, I do think that as a society, we have gone a tad obsessive with foodie fads such as diets eliminating all carbs, fats and dairy. Whilst I usually tend to stay gluten free and sugar free, there are days where kale chips will just not do, no matter how much nutritional yeast I smother them in. I profusely admire my friends who have given up certain foods for medical reasons, but for me, I need a happy medium and no longer want to feel guilty for eating peanut butter M&M's every now and again.
APPRECIATE THE ART OF DOING NOTHING. I am a serial busy body. This propensity stems from my childhood where my poor mother chauffeured my sister and I from piano lessons, to tennis matches to swimming training to theatre school. These days, my weekends are a blur of brunches, theatre visits, dinner parties, long walks with the dog and mini-breaks. I wouldn't give that up for anything but come Sunday evening I often find myself yearning for time away from the whirlwind of my life. The boy recently introduced me to the italian phrase, "La Dolce Far Niente" or "The Art of Doing Nothing" and let's just say come 2015, I am looking forward to the occasional lazy weekend with nothing but cashmere socks and a supply of Ben & Jerrys's Peanut Butter Me Up for company.

INSPIRE AND BE INSPIRED. From my sister, whose courageous career move inspired my own, to one of my best friends, who was forced to dramatically change her lifestyle after a severe medical diagnosis, I feel truly blessed to call some of the most inspiring people I know, my nearest and dearest. Whilst I gain artistic stimulation from other blogs and magazines, it's my friends and family who are behind every goal, achievement and decision in my life. I look forward to fulfilling more life goals in 2015 with them by my side.
I wish you all a very Happy New Year and I look forward to hearing about your life goals for 2015.
